Five years after the war in Syria began, millions of Syrians are displaced after desperately fleeing the violence in their homeland.
Refugees, traumatized by war and from their dangerous and often deadly journey in pursuit of a safe haven, continue to face challenges abroad. Refugee camps are overpopulated and basic necessities like water, shelter, food and medical care are scarce. For those now in host countries, the opportunities to settle and start a new life are limited as surrounding countries struggle with the demands placed on them by the influx of refugees.
